At present, I am focused on the conversations between women, healers and their healing mediums. Healing can look like so many different things, to so many different women.
The work you see here reflects a style I have developed, and continually seek to develop through my learnings and life experiences.
I am currently working on a project that explores healers, such a yoga facilitators, energy workers, herbalists, and their healing mediums.
It is my goal to interview, at first, healing guides from the African Diaporic Community within the UK, holding their oral stories, and bringing them to life through fine art. I'd like to bridge communities worldwide- Windrush descendants, Black Brazilians, Hoodoos, and then spanning to wider Celtic, Pagan communities, who are seeking to return to ancient, Animist ways in the goal of returning to individual and community healing.
My Long Term Artistic Career Plans
- I aim to visit as many African Diasporic communities as possible, to understand the community's approach to healing.
- Learning oral history training to I can accurately capture their stories in my art is something I plan to do first.
-I will continually upskill through courses, books, and practical learning to help develop my fine art storytelling
- I will visit Maroons in Jamaica, Iemanja Devotees in Brazil, Voodoos in New Orleans, and Black/ Windrush descendants Healing communities in the UK, to document both orally and artistically, the movement that continues to grow of women seeking to connect with traditional healing methods.
- I will paint the keepers of these traditions, along with their modalities, also including the moments of joy, peace and jubilation in between. I will create a dialogue between these artworks and the communities they represent,
- I will continue to show these artworks to any institutions and people that will gladly listen to these stories, wherever I can.
-Overall, I plan to make this my life's work, staying responsive to learnings and changes through the times.
